The President

• Is the chief executive officer of the Association
• Sets the agenda for and chairs Council meetings
• Serves on the Conference Executive Committees
• Appoints ad-hoc task forces as needed
• Represents USAEE at IAEE meetings and in any relationship with other organizations
• Engages with the Executive Director in an annual review as described in the management contract; the review team shall also include the President-Elect and the Past-President

The President-Elect

• Chairs the Strategic Planning Group
• Chairs any ad-hoc task forces or committees as appointed by the President, including the committee to negotiate or renegotiate the Association's management contract(s), which committee shall include the Secretary-Treasurer
• Serves on the Conference Executive Committees
• Maintains the list of Officer and Committee Action Items
• Engages with the Executive Director in an annual review

The Past-President

• Chairs the Nominations Committee
• Serves on the Strategic Planning Group
• Engages with the Executive Director in an annual review

The Vice-President for Membership chairs the Membership Committee and is responsible for seeing to it that membership in USAEE is maintained at a level necessary to support the organization's activities and for striving to increase it, aiming for substantial increases in membership.

The Vice-President for Membership shall:

• Work with the Membership Committee and the VP-Communications, hone and spread a message emphasizing USAEE as a special association where US energy economics professionals from business, academe, government, consulting, finance, the media and other professions collaborate for their professional development and for the benefit of our society
• Review past membership drive efforts and their effectiveness
• Identify plausible pools of new members including sustaining members (perhaps identified by professional specialty, by geography or by sector) and craft strategies for attracting them
• Coordinate efforts with other Council members, especially VP Conferences, VP Communications and VP Academic Affairs
• Consider ways to engage current members in attracting new members
• Keep good records regarding which recruitment methods seem to work and which do not
• Report regularly to Council on plans, activities, progress and needs

The Vice-President for Conferences chairs the Conference Executive Committees which are responsible for planning conferences that achieve the Association's objectives for its conferences. The Vice-President for Conferences is responsible for setting meeting agendas and distributing notes from each meeting.

The Vice-President for Conferences is also responsible for:

• Timely action on the conference countdown checklist items and any updating of that checklist
• Incorporation into future conference planning of ideas and suggestions noted as part of conference evaluation and post-mortem review

The Vice-President for Academic Affairs is responsible for:

• Providing leadership and oversight of new or proposed USAEE programs and activities that serve the interests of the academic members of USAEE
• Working with the Student Member of USAEE Council to promote and increase student membership of USAEE
• Coordinating the USAEE student awards and scholarship programs
• Coordinating the nomination of a student member to serve on the USAEE Council
• Providing oversight of the USAEE Working Paper Series and fostering its growth and visibility within the research community
• Maintaining and updating the standing list of academic departments, research programs, and learning centers that may be interested in the activities and services provided by the USAEE
• Encouraging and supervising educational outreach by USAEE to secondary school teachers as opportunities for this arise

The Vice-President for Communications is responsible for:

• Chairing the Communications Committee.
• The Communications Committee consists of one additional Council member plus the Editor of Dialogue and the Facebook coordinator
• Participating in all new initiatives for communicating with members
• Press relations, particularly at conferences, and for implementing the USAEE's policy on press relations
• Appointing member to the Subcommittee on Press Relations and chairing that subcommittee
• Overseeing new initiatives involving the USAEE website and recommending changes where appropriate
• Working with the Facebook coordinator to oversee the USAEE's presence on Facebook
• Implementing a media plan to increase the visibility of USAEE in the energy policy arena

The Vice-President for Chapter Liaison is responsible for:

• Seeing to it that all members of USAEE are encouraged to join local chapters
• Seeking opportunities to open new chapters or revitalize older ones through focused USAEE attention
• Encouraging chapters to maintain up-to-date information at their USAEE website locations
• Sponsoring a chapter head meeting at the annual USAEE meetings
• Providing appropriate USAEE assistance to chapters who wish to coordinate programs with one another

The Secretary-Treasurer is responsible for:

• Drafting minutes of Council meetings (with the assistance of the Executive Director)
• Certifying all votes of Council and of general membership
• Chairing the Finance Committee and serving as a member of the Conference Executive Committees
• Budgeting:
• Coordinate the work of the Finance and Sponsorship Committees and the Executive Director to
• Establish Conference budget(s) and recommend to Council
• Establish a balanced Association budget and recommend to Council
• In consultation with all Vice Presidents and the Executive Director establish an Association Advancement Fund budget and present for Council approval
• Comment as requested on the budgeting implications of proposals considered by Council and the Conference Executive Committee(s)
• Authorize budget amendments that leave the Association budget balanced; notify Council of such amendments
• Financial Oversight:
• Ensure that the Association's management firm employs current, efficient budgeting and financial management software and practices
• Review frequent reports from the Executive Director on the Association's financial condition
• Promptly advise Council of deviations from approved budgets
• Directing the investments of the Association
• Resolving any financial questions raised by the Executive Director

The Student Representative is responsible for:

• Providing leadership and oversight of new or proposed USAEE programs and activities that serve the interests of the student members of USAEE
• Working with the Vice President - Academic Affairs of USAEE Council to promote and increase student membership in USAEE
• Overseeing student programs that take place at the North American Conference (e.g., Student Happy Hour, networking opportunities between students and prospective employers, student breakfast meeting, etc.)
• Coordinating and participating in all aspects of USAEE social media (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).

Council members serve at the pleasure of Council and are expected to participate and contribute to the general deliberations of Council. They are also expected to assist in special projects of the Council. For example, recent special projects involving Council members include development of a salary survey, development of special sessions for the North American Conference; cross marketing efforts with other associations and development of marketing efforts to expand membership. Council members will also sit on the committees of Council and participate in their deliberations. Recently Council members have sat on the Finance Committee, the Membership Committee and other Committees as deemed appropriate.
