Oil Sands Tour*

Participants on the Oil Sands tour will visit Fort McMurray in the world's biggest single oil deposit - the Athabasca Oil Sands. The tour will include in-situ, reclamation, tailings reduction operations (TRO), the mine site, upgrading and extraction and a company presentation.  The first stop of the tour will be the Oil Sands Discovery Centre, an educational facility committed to increasing public awareness, appreciation and knowledge about the oil sands industry. A guided bus tour of the Suncor mine site and plant site will follow allowing the tour participants to learn about the oil sands extraction process. On the plant site tour, participants will see massive equipment and technology used to extract bitumen from the oil sands. The cost of the tour will be $700 which includes airfare to and from Fort McMurray. The tour will take place all day Wednesday, October 13, 2010.  Participants will depart from the hotel lobby at 6:00 a.m. by group bus transfer.  A Suncor bus will transfer participants from the airport to Fort McMurray, provide lunch and PPE (boots, safety helmet, etc. -- you may bring your own steel toe boots if you prefer).  Suncor reserves the right to refuse any participant to the tour.  Participants will return to the airport after 5:00 p.m. for a return flight.  Group expected to be back at hotel in Calgary by approximately 9 p.m.

Banff & Lake Louise Tour

This tour features waterfalls frozen in time, an ascent up a mountain, a taste of local history and a chance to spy on wildlife - complete in one day! For over a century, explorers have been making the trip to the incredible towering mountain peaks and icy blue glaciers, which are the highlights of Lake Louise. Your journey begins in Calgary along the Trans Canada Highway and onto the winding Bow Valley Parkway passing Hole-in-the-Wall, Johnston Canyon and magnificent Castle Mountain. At Lake Louise, enjoy free time to discover this special place.

As we continue touring, we will head back to the mountain town of Banff. To start, see the beauty of Bow Falls just below the Banff Springs Hotel. Continue exploring from some of the best views in town - Surprise Corner on Tunnel Mountain Drive, the Hoodoos (oddly shaped pillars of glacial rock), Banff Springs Hotel and Sulphur Mountain's peak. Take the gondola up to the 7,500 ft summit of Sulphur Mountain and enjoy the panoramic view of the entire Bow Valley. Spend some free time exploring the shops in the downtown core. The rich history and beauty of Banff & Lake Louise will last in memory for years to come!  The tour takes place on Sunday, October 17, 2010.  The bus will leave the Hyatt at 8:15 am and will return to the hotel at approximately 5:30 pm.

Half Day ENMAX Place Tour

ENMAX Corporation (ENMAX) is an energy distribution, supply and service company. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary, headquartered in Calgary, CANADA. ENMAX operates and competes in Alberta's restructured electricity industry. The bus will leave the Hyatt at 12:30 pm and will return to the hotel at approximately 4:00 pm.

The group of participants will be divided into four groups of 10. (Maximum Participation 40 People). The half-day tour will focus on the following:

a) Solar Panel Technology

  • In 2007, ENMAX Energy began the development of our solar demonstration center at our head office in Calgary.
  • There are eight technologies of solar photovoltaic panels and solar hot water systems that can be found on the rooftop of our building.
b) ENMAX Control Centre
  • The Control Center, with full back up capability, provides 24x7, real-time monitoring and operation of the EPC transmission and distribution system in Calgary to ensure that safety, reliability, system security, and equipment performance are optimized.
  • Control Center Operators co-ordinate with First Line Response and other resource groups to investigate and respond to power interruptions in order to maximize reliability and minimize public exposure to safety hazards and environmental risks. Resources are deployed to respond according to the severity of system disturbances.
c) ENMAX Place Tour
  • ENMAX Corporation commissioned a new corporate headquarters in 2003, and in the process established a benchmark for sustainable buildings. Environmental considerations were identified and integrated into the planning and construction phases of the project.
  • ENMAX essentially turned an abandoned warehouse that was also a brownfield site into a world class office and operational building that is also an EcoLogo Certified "green" office facility.
  • Tour may include a walk through or ENMAX's trading floor.
d) Other
  • Film/Presentation discussing ENMAX initiatives and Alberta industry.
